700 km. 8 days. One Venn Cubed consultant taking on the Cape Epic.

One of our own, Werner Joyce, Senior EPM Consultant at Venn Cubed, is currently taking on one of the toughest endurance events in the world: the Absa Cape Epic.
Often referred to as the Tour de France of mountain biking, the Cape Epic is an eight-day stage race through the Western Cape that tests riders both physically and mentally. Participants cover roughly 700 km of rugged terrain and more than 15,000 metres of climbing, navigating demanding singletrack, steep mountain passes and long endurance stages.
Werner is competing in the Masters Men category alongside teammate Alewyn Grové, tackling the demanding course stage by stage across some of South Africa’s most iconic mountain biking landscapes.
The Race Gets Underway
Yesterday the event began with the traditional Prologue, a shorter opening stage used to determine starting positions for the main stages of the race.
Today the real endurance challenge begins with Stage 1, a demanding route around Montagu:
Distance: 90 km
Elevation gain: 2,150 m
Location: Montagu → Montagu
Early live race data already showed Werner and his teammate deep into the stage, reaching Water Point 4, Badensfontein Kamp (58 km) with a split time of 3:57:34
The Cape Epic is known for combining long climbs, technical descents and intense endurance riding, making every stage a serious test of resilience.
